Former SSP brands director Wayne Chapman has been appointed chief executive of the four-strong Ribble Valley Inns, the food-led pub business owned by the Northcote Group.

After eight years at SSP, Chapman joins the northwest England-based hotel and pub operator, which is planning to expand after securing new investment from former Blackburn Rovers Football Club vice-chairman Richard Matthewman.

In his previous role Chapman was responsible for the development of SSP’s bars, restaurants and franchises. During his time at SSP he oversaw the opening of more than 150 bars and restaurants as well as introducing the likes of Starbucks, into the travel sector.

Northcote joint managing director Craig Bancroft said: “We are thrilled that Wayne is joining us. It is exciting times and Wayne’s expertise will be vital in the growth of Ribble Valley Inns as we expand the group and move forward.”

Chapman said: “We are committed to continue with the ethos of using local artisan suppliers to provide the finest food and drink, ensuring we deliver a premium pub experience. I really look forward to improving our current estate and to further expand our brand.”

The group is looking to invest a potential £4m to £6m on growing its estate, with an initial target of adding between six and eight pubs in the next five years for its Inns division.
