Marston’s is planning on bowling a googly to Pedigree ale fans this summer, with a new version of the brew to be launched ahead of this year’s Ashes clash.

Pedigree New World Pale Ale will be launched in June and is made with Galaxy and Topaz hops from New Zealand, instead of the British Fuggles and Goldings that is usually used for Pedigree.

It will be sold alongside the original Pedigree ale.

An equal amount of each hop variety is used during brewing but the beer is then dry hopped with 100% Galaxy hops, which the brewer said made for a golden, refreshing ale with notes of peach and passion fruit.

Pedigree is the official sponsor of the England cricket team and has become known for its marketing activity around the Ashes series.

It has previously given its yeast to make a commemorative Marmite and won awards for its tongue-in-cheek ad campaigns around the event.
