Smiling again: Alistair Scott is now sipping not supping
Ever heard of the publican and beer sommelier that's allergic to beer?

Sounds daft, but Snifter was shocked to discover that long-time friend of the Publican's Morning Advertiser, Alistair Scott, recently discovered an intolerance to yeast. Pretty inconvenient when you a run a pub and taste-test beer for a living.

In fact, the story is so bewildering that it made the Harrogate Advertiser, on what was, presumably, a very slow news day.

A home testing kit found Scott, who runs the Square and Compass pub, suffers a severe reaction to yeast, which is found in many of the things he enjoys every day.

“Bread, beer, wine - all kinds of alcohol in fact, which is dreadful considering I work in a pub for a living!" Scott told the paper.

“Even when I’m not actually drinking socially, my work as a sommelier means that I have to attend tastings all the time. I was very worried and didn’t know how I’d be able to cope.”

Thankfully, he is now learning to live with his allergy through changing his eating habits, which chiefly involves munching more curry and adopting a 'sip, not sup', approach to beer tastings.

Snifter is happy to hear of Scott's new dietary regime and wonders whether PMA editor Rob Willock will be following suit, considering his recent article on health and licensee life.
