A specialist gin bar has opened in London which even makes its own tonic water.

The site, 214 Bermondsey, offers a range of 50 different gins including boutique gin brands from the west coast of America, Holland, Scotland and Jensen’s Old Tom gin, made in Bermondsey.

The bar is housed in the basement of restaurant Antico, and sits of the site of the old Bermondsey antiques market. It is owned by Nick Crispini who owns Antico. He has created ‘214 tonic water’, which is made at the site.

He said: “No two gins are the same so to enhance their unique flavours we have created ‘214 Tonic’ water finding that the addition of this to any gin transforms a classic G&T.”

The bar is offering five gin flights. To add a point of interest and open up discussion, customers are given their choice of three mini gin and tonics to sample, but the brand names are kept secret in a sealed envelope until a customer has made a decision on their favourite, so their choice of favourite is unadulterated by the brand.

The flights include the Renaissance Flight (£12), which includes Hendricks, Tanquerary 10 and Sipsmith and the So Crazy it Flight Just Work(£15), which features Bulldog, Death’s Door and Gilpin’s gins.

A wide range of gin-based cocktails is also on offer.
