A celebrity chef has opened a new pub in Devon.

John Hooker, who has competed twice in TV series The Great British Menu, and his wife Emma have partnered with St Austell to refurbish the Cornish Arms.

The bar has been remodelled to create one large pub space with the former restaurant area incorporated rather than being in a separate room. Outside there is new signage and lighting and external redecorations and planting to the beer garden have created an area to drink and dine.

Hooker says: “The refurbishment of the pub has been like a breath of fresh air, and now it’s finished it feels like a completely different place. I’ve been involved with the project right from the start, working with St Austell Brewery and the architect.”

The menu will feature starters such as Cornish plaice, coconut and lemongrass onion bhaji (£8.00) and mains contains a steak burger, pork belly, gherkin, chilli chutney, chips (£10.50).
