Sky Sports and BT Sport have released the first tranche of Premier League football fixtures that each channel will show live.

The new season kicks-off on 17 August with BT Sport showing Liverpool vs Stoke at the lunchtime slot of 12.45pm.

Later that day, Sky will broadcast its first game with Swansea vs Manchester Utd at 5.30pm, followed by two games on Sunday – the London derby between Crystal Palace and Tottenham and Chelsea starting their campaign against newly-promoted Hull City.

As part of its ‘top pick’ match selection before Christmas, BT Sport will show heavyweight clashes between Spurs and Chelsea, the Merseyside derby, Spurs vs Manchester Utd and Newcastle v Liverpool.

Bruce Cuthbert, director commercial customers at BT Sport, said: “We are thrilled that pubs and clubs will be able to enjoy these must see fixtures. This is the first time in Premier League history that top pick matches have been shown anywhere other than on Sky.

"We have only used five of our top picks, which means that BT Sport will have another 13 throughout the remainder of the season, so we have many more excellent Premier League games to come."

Highlights of Sky Sports’ coverage in the first half of the season include every Premier League team shown by 6 October and at least twice by 1 December. In total Sky has 116 live fixtures, the most ever in a single season.

Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports, said: "This is our biggest ever season of Premier League football.  When you look at the opening fixtures in black and white, you can see that no other broadcaster comes close to the quality that we offer.

"Sky Sports will show every match between last season’s top four as well as every club at least twice by December.  We’ll have more than three times as many matches as BT, and our schedule is even stronger than it was last season."
