The British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) has paid tribute to regional secretary, Lee Le Clercq, who retired at the end of July.

He joined the BBPA from Preston Council and before that he served as Squadron leader in the RAF.

Brigid Simmonds, BBPA chief executive said: “Lee has been a great advocate for the BBPA over the last 16 years, looking after the Northern Region with passion, tenacity and humour.

"His organisational skills are legendary and he has always been a great supporter of his colleagues and all in our team.  He has defended the industry against red-tape and promoted a positive image for beer and pubs.  We will miss him."

Simon Theakston, executive director of T&R Theakston and chairman of the BBPA NE & Yorkshire said: “No one has done more to defend the proud record of the British Brewing and Pub industry in the North of England than Lee.

"His ability to put forward our case in a clear and concise way combined with his mastership of detail and endless patience, so vital in this role, will be very sorely missed. We wish him a long and happy retirement."
