The Elveden Inn in Suffolk has been crowned Pub of the Year in England in the AA Hospitality Awards.

The pub near Thetford was awarded top prize for its food, atmosphere, warm welcome and high standard of management. It was refurbished in late 2011 and reopened with a contemprary bar and dining rooms. It serves East Anglisn ales on tap and dishes from a modern pub menu.

The Groes Inn, Conwy took the prize for Wales after impressing judges with views of the River Conwy, as well as its Welsh menu that includes lamb and game from nearby estates and seafood caught in Conwy’s quay or Angelsey’s boats.

Scotland’s winner was the Sheep Heid Inn in Edinburgh for its ‘outstanding’ food and atmosphere.

Alain Roux’s Waterside Inn won the AA Food Service Award for ‘gastronomy’ and theatre.

The Scotland and overall winner of the AA Wine Award is the Witchery by the Castle in Edinburgh, which impressed judges with its ‘expertly chosen’ wines, great pricing and good value along with tasting notes. The Northcote in Langho, Lancashire took the prize for England with its impressive by the glass list and the Park House in Cardiff took the title for Wales for its Australian range and champagnes. 

Meanwhile, TV chef Tom Kerridge of two-Michelin-starred Greene King tenancy the Hand & Flowers in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, took the AA Chefs’ Chef of the Year award. It is a unique award that offers all AA Rosette-awarded chefs the chance to decide which of their peers deserves the recognition.
