A Cumbrian brewery has created four beers inspired by cult film classic Withnail & I.

The Eden Brewery is close to Penrith, which is featured in the film as the location of Uncle Monty’s cottage, and brewer Jason Hill and his business partner Stephen Mitchell were inspired by a love of the film. The beers have a range of flavours, including fresh raspberries in one of the brews and pack a hefty punch with strengths ranging from 5.3% to 9.1%.

The beers are called Antifreeze, RLF (Ronson Lighter Fluid, which is made with the raspberries), Revenge and Here Here Beer.

“The names are just a light-hearted reference to a well-loved classic and I think people will appreciate that," said Hill.

Each beer's label is complete with an corresponding quote from the film, which was launched in 1986 and details the adventures of a pair of notoriously boozy "resting" actors who travel from sixties London to take a holiday in the Lake District.

"It is such a classic and probably one of the most famous and - in my opinion – one of the best films made in the Lakes," said Hill. "We have both loved the film since we were young and couldn't think of a better way to pay homage than naming some delicious beers after some of the props, characters and events that feature in it.

Eden Brewery was established in 2011 and is one of the newest of Cumbria's independent breweries

Its other beers include Eden Best, Eden Gold, First Emperor, Eden Fuggle and Dark Knight.
