A couple are celebrating after 25 years at the helm of the Miners Arms in Swadlincote, Derbyshire.

Roger Redfern started running the Punch Taverns-owned pub with his wife Bev in 1988.

He said: "The Miners Arms is not only my home, but a second home for my customers. They are like my mates, we can have a laugh and I play in some of the pub’s crib, dominoes, pool and darts teams. I’m also chairman of the pub’s football cub.

"I really enjoy running the pub, but I don’t see it as a job — it’s a way of life."

A party will be held at the pub to celebrate the feat. Punch Taverns’ Paul Taylor (left) hands over flowers to the Redferns.
