Foodservice supplier Brakes Group will open its first Professional Food Market next Monday (17 March).

The site is a 25,000 square foot store in Croydon, Surrey and it will sell more than 4,000 fresh, grocery, frozen and non-food catering products to caterers. It is the first specialist foodservice wholesale store of its kind in the UK cash and carry market.

The food market has been developed in response to customer feedback stating they wanted a place to shop that was specifically designed to meet their needs and give would them greater flexibility and convenience. Therefore, the market will focus on foodservice professionals with high quality fresh products, a broad range, good value and good service.

A closer look

Particular focuses will include fresh meat, fish, fruit and vegetables from Brakes businesses including M&J Seafood, Wild Harvest, Pauleys and Prime Meats alongside branded suppliers. Services on offer at the store include an in-store butcher, fish monger and development chefs in a working kitchen on hand to offer advice. The store will employ 35 people.

Brakes claims its prices will be up to 10% lower than a delivered service and in the first two weeks of opening customers will benefit from £50 off their first shop over £100.

Brakes is a sponsor of the Publican Morning Advertiser’s Publican Awards on 25 March at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London’s Mayfair.
