The finalists for the British Institue of Innkeeping (BII) Licensee of the Year Award have been unveiled ahead of the 13 May ceremony.

The six publicans to have reached the 29th final have gone through four intensive judging stages to get to this stage, including a judging day where they are grilled by three separate panels of industry experts.

The awards are designed to recognise the cream of the country’s licensees who can demonstrate business acumen, outstanding operational skills, team building prowess, excellent customer service standards and the ability to innovate and adapt to a challenging market, as well as a passion for the trade.

“Make no mistake, if you claim the title of BII Licensee of the Year, you really are the best of the best,” said Tim Hulme, BII chief executive.

“This is the toughest competition in the market and to have got to this stage represents a major achievement for all our finalists – so congratulations to them, and I look forward to announcing our 2014 winner on 13 May.”
