Taylors of Harrogate has teamed up with Kew Gardens to create a range of herbal tea infusions using premium fruits and herbs.

Made using ingredients sourced by Taylors and certified by experts at the Royal Botanic Gardens, in Kew, west London, the Taylors of Harrogate Fruit and Herbal Infusions range consists of six blends inspired by a mix of classic British ingredients and world flavours.

According to Taylors, the range allows establishments to tap into the growing fruit and herb tea market, which has grown by 9% in the last year to a market value of £68.7m (Nielsen).

John Sutcliffe, out-of-home and convenience controller at Taylors of Harrogate, said: “We’ve seen the demand for fruit and herb blends grow considerably in recent years to become a core part of tea menus.”

Sutcliffe added: “All the fruits and herbs in our infusions have been analysed by Kew’s experts, ensuring authenticity, quality and purity.”

“The result is a range of natural blends, bursting with flavour and goodness that will help operators offer customers an appealing alternative to traditional infusions on the market.”

Plant knowledge

Professor Monique Simmonds, director of Kew’s Innovation Unit, worked with Taylors of Harrogate to create the blends.

She said: “We are delighted to be able to use our knowledge about plant chemistry and the traditional uses of plants to assist Taylors of Harrogate in developing a line of quality fruit and herbal infusions.

“It has been great fun working with them to develop a range that really brings together the flavours of plants from the orient and the fields of England.”

The range

  • Peppermint
  • Lemongrass & Ginger (with a touch of lemon verbena)
  • Chamomile & Vanilla (with a hint of orange leaf)
  • Sweet Rhubarb (with tangy apple pieces and a pinch of blackberry leaf)
  • Spiced Apple (with star anise, ginger root, cardamom and cinnamon)
  • Blackberry & Elderflower (with a touch of tangy apple, a sprinkle of orange peel and a dash of raspberry)

The infusions are caffeine-free and contain no added sugar.
