A London pub owned by ETM Group is to play host to an event to find the nation’s best slider.

Some of the UK’s most talented and creative chefs will battle it out for the honour of 'Slider Decider Champion 2014' at the Gun, in Docklands, on 5 June.

Representing the pub-trade will be Alexandre Ng, from the Flask, a Fuller’s managed house in Highgate. The chef will be showcasing his papa slider – which features dal chilli croquette, tomato chatini, crispy shallots, wild garlic mayo, avocado mousse and cheese and bulgogi beef.

Ng will be up against a shortlist of chefs from a number of London restaurants, including L’Anima, Nanban, Hix and Ember Yard.

Last year’s champion, Jamie Thickett of Holborn-based restaurant Opera Tavern, will be hoping to hold onto his crown with an iberico pork slider with lobster, fried courgette, nduja aioli and a saffron bun.

Live demos

The event will take place in the Gun’s newly-updated outside space, the Gin Garden, which overlooks the Thames.

Two contestants from each heat will be holding live demonstrations throughout the evening, giving guests the chance to taste their signature slider creations.

Tickets for the event are available to the public at £15 each, and include a bottle of Hobo beer and two of the Gun’s own sliders.

Judges include Rebecca Seal, from Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, restaurant critic Tracey MacLeod, London Evening Standard’s food editor Victoria Stewart and, Stefan Chomka, editor of Restaurant magazine.
