Bunzl has created a colour-coded system to help operators recycle their packaging more effectively.

Working with London Bio Packaging, the catering supplier has applied the system to two new colour-coded packaging brands.

Colour-coded green, the Sustain range is a mix of renewable and compostable packaging that asks users to 'compost me' alongside food waste, while Revive - colour-coded in blue - can be recycled with paper and plastic waste.

Available in coffee cups, soup containers, sandwich packs, deli posts and cutlery, Bunzl said Sustain is 100% biodegradable and will break down into re-usable compost within 12 weeks.

The packaging is made solely from plants that will regrow, such as sugar cane and corn, and has been independently certified for compostability under the EN13432 standard. It has also been tested by the UK government waste body WRAP.
