Sky Sports has launched a new channel dedicated to European football.

Commercial customers of Sky Sports will receive the new channel, Sky Sports 5, from 12 August as part of their existing subscription.

Sky Sports 5, which is the seventh channel from Sky Sports and the first television channel dedicated to European football, will screen more than 600 live European matches next season. It will show UEFA EURO 2016 qualifiers UEFA Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey, as well as other European football programming including Revista De La Liga and Champions League Weekly.

It will also offer exclusive live coverage of Holland’s top division Eredivise under a new four-year deal announced today.

David Rey, managing director of Sky Business, said: “Sky Sports 5 takes our unrivalled live football coverage to the next level, offering more European football than ever before.

“We are also delighted to bring our customers action from Holland’s top league and by scheduling all of our European football content on one channel, pubs and clubs will find it easier than ever to show all this great content to draw in fans.”

Sky Sports 5 is being launched this week, backed by a nationwide marketing campaign starring David Beckham.

Beckham said: “Some of my greatest playing moments were on the European stage with Manchester United, playing in El Clasico for Real Madrid and captaining England in Euro qualifiers.  Sky Sports 5 will offer all the drama and excitement that European football has to offer and I’ll certainly be gripped.”
