The Luminar Group, the nightclub operator, is looking to roll out an initiative to help keep women safe on a night out, after winning an award on the back of the campaign.

Luminar’s Liquid & Envy in Ipswich won Best Club, Best Town Centre Venue and Best Door Staff accolades at the local Best Bar None Awards last week. One of the key factors for its success was its Girls United safety campaign, launched earlier in the year by manager Emily Palmer.

The initiative was designed to give female customers the tools they need to stay safe on a night out in the town. The venue installed free mobile phone charging points in permanently manned cloakrooms and clearly displayed approved taxi firm numbers at reception.

Training

The Liquid & Envy team was also trained to look out for “vulnerable young females”, offer support and question anyone leaving the venue alone. Two fully qualified female door staff are now also on hand every Friday and Saturday night and there are posters and flyers within the nightclub reminding women to stay safe.

The Luminar Group said it is now looking to roll out Girls United to selected venues across its 53-strong club estate.

Palmer said: “I am so proud of what we have achieved. We have worked really hard to make sure that Liquid is a fun and safe place for young people to enjoy a night out.

“The Girls United campaign has been a real hit with our customers and our local authorities including the police and our MP Ben Gummer, who attended the launch.”
