An Ayrshire pub has launched a referendum ale with special ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ cask ales going on sale.

The Twa Dugs in Ayr contacted Ayr Brewing Company to create the beer and special pump badges on the back of pub banter around the Scottish Referendum, which takes place on September 18.

The "yes " ale is an IPA with the slogan Independent Plae Ale, while the "No" ale is a classic bitter, affectionately nicknamed "Bitter Together.”

“People get involved in some serious debates at the bar over politics and this lightens it up and adds a bit of froth to a dry subject,” bar owner Bob Shields told the PMA. “They think it’s a bit of fun. At the moment the yes’s are winning."

The beer, which sells for £3.40 a pint, is also available in bottle format as part of a £10 gift bag containing a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ glass.

“In two days I’ve sold between 30 and 40 and have orders coming in from Canada….this is a collector’s item, a bit of history in a bottle,” Shields added.

Profits raised from the sales will be donated to the Ayrshire Hospice.
