The regional winners in the Great British Pub Awards 2014 have been announced.

One hundred pubs have been crowned as regional champions across six UK regions in 17 categories.

The regional winners have been selected from hundreds of entries, following visits to shortlisted pubs by a panel of judges including David Hancock, editor of the Alastair Sawday’s Pubs & Inns Guide; Alastair Gilmour, editor of pub magazine Cheers North East, pub guide inspector and Yorkshire Post columnist Amanda Wragg, industry journalist Phil Mellows and Publican’s Morning Advertiser editor Rob Willock.

Two new categories have been introduced for the 2014 awards: Best Pub Loos and Best Cider Pub/Bar.

Passion

The awards, organised by the Publican’s Morning Advertiser, recognise the business achievements of licensees around the UK through a three-stage judging process.

From the regional winners across the 17 categories, national champions for each category are being selected who will be unveiled at an exciting awards ceremony at the Hilton on Park Lane, London on 11 September.

A champion of champions - the Sky Sports Great British Pub of the Year 2014 - who is selected from the award's 17 category winners, will also be revealed at the sports-themed awards night.

PMA editor Rob Willock said: "We have an excellent set of regional winners who are a credit to our industry. To be named among the best in the business they have all demonstrated strong business performance and development, amazing passion for their pubs and the industry, exciting innovation and great retail standards. The licensees running these businesses have a wealth of business acumen and skills."
