The Pipe and Glass in South Dalton, Yorkshire, was named overall Dining Pub of the Year
Chef-owner James Mackenzie said: “It was a complete surprise and it’s great news for the pub and for the area. “
The Pipe and Glass was also listed in the Good Food Guide’s inaugural Top 50 UK Pubs and Mackenzie said it was important to him that it was recognised as a pub.
He said: “I like to think that we are the Great British pub. I want people to feel comfortable coming in for a pint and for the bar to be a welcoming and inviting place.”
Mackenzie said his plans for the next year included adding three more letting rooms to the pub to supplement the two current apartments. He said a kitchen garden would also be developed in the spring.
