The days of ripping the back of crisp packets to be able to share the bag may well be over, as Seabrook crisps reveals its new “peel front” format.

The UK snack company has designed the new pack for its Lattice Cut range, which will launch in mid October.

“The unique peel & share” design gives the foodservice sector an exciting new product that responds to the growth of sharing occasions for crisps, currently worth £290m (Nielsen to 19 July 2014),” said marketing director Kevin Butterworth.

“Consumers sharing snacks like crisps and cake is very common in the foodservice sector and we’ve developed a stylish and unique solution for pubs, cafés and canteens to offer customers that recognises this ritual.”

Treat or sharing

The company is aiming the new range at 40+ housewives who frequently purchase for treat or sharing occasions.

It hopes the new format will drive incremental sales of crisps in outlets by making it easier for consumers to share when they are eating out of home, “meaning health conscious consumers will be more willing to treat themselves with their friends or colleagues,” explained Butterworth.

The peel-front pack has a tamper-proof seal and packets share the same shelf life as the more traditional bag design.
