The BII (British Institute of Innkeeping) has begun its search for a new chairman.

The role, currently filled in an interim capacity by Tom Richardson after the death of Bernard Brindley, is described as a “high-profile leadership role” supporting chief executive Tim Hulme to implement a BII growth plan.

Hulme said: “First indications suggest a lot of interest around the role. Opening up the opportunity to a wider membership audience enables us to consider a vast pool of talent and will hopefully yield the perfect fit to join the strong, new management team.”

Key responsibilities of the role include leading the board of trustees; guiding and directing the chair of three advisory boards; maintaining corporate governance, and guiding and supporting the chief executive.

The time commitment is expected to be around 2.5 days per month, including attending board and industry-associated meetings.

The selection panel includes Andrew Griffiths, MP and chair of the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group; Stephen Glancey,  group chief executive of C&C Group and Stephen Gould, managing director of Everards, who will be accompanied by two serving non-executives and two acting trustees in addition to Hulme.

Applicants are invited to submit their application with a statement of intent to Gill Cooper, Company Secretary, c/o BII, Wessex House, Camberley by 31 October.  Successful applicants will be contacted in the week of 3 November, with interviews in the middle of the month.  Visit www.bii.org/chairmanappointment for more information.

The new chair is expected to start at the end of November. It will be a provisional appointment until the annual general meeting in June, at which members will be asked to ratify the selection panel's choice.
