Cookery writer Romilla Arber has opened a pub in Berkshire with a former Claridge’s chef as head chef.

Arber’s Honesty Group has opened the Crown & Garter Pub in Inkpen, which features 10 boutique bedrooms.

The site joins the group’s cookery school and school catering support businesses and will fall under the company’s ‘Food and Rooms’ division. The group plans to open further pubs in the next two years.

Arber’s books include ‘What’s for Dinner? Second Helpings’ which have won a Gourmand International Cookbook Award.

The pub also features an on-site coffee shop and bakery which prepares and bakes all items fresh, daily. Headed by baker/pastry chef Robert Rodrigues, the bakery offers freshly-baked pastries, cakes, cookies and artisan bread and sandwiches.

This will also serve breakfast and sandwiches.

The Crown & Garter’s head chef is Matthew Ambrose whose menus are focusing on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients with everything made from scratch on site including condiments, bread and butter.
