Scottish brewer and pub operator BrewDog has been awarded £1.5m by the Scottish Government.

The company said the grant would result in investment of more than £20m in the company and create 130 new jobs.

During a visit to BrewDog’s Ellon facility, Deputy First Minister John Swinney said: “BrewDog is a remarkable Scottish success story, beginning with Martin and James’ passion for quality craft beer in 2007 and growing into a major award-winning company.

“I am delighted to support this growth through today’s RSA [Regional Selective Assistance] award which will create a further 130 jobs in the north east.”

James Watt, co-founder of BrewDog, said: “We are truly thankful for the immense support from the RSA and Scottish Enterprise. With the increased funding we are able to make our dreams a reality and add loads more integral and talented people to the BrewDog team. Each new hire will help us with our massive plans for 2015 and the years following and manifest our mission in Scotland and across the world.”

Soft drinks

Separately, BrewDog has revealed that it is advertising for a specialist to help it launch a soft drinks range.

The operator said it wanted to “translate our approach to beer to other beverages, ensuring that we continue to be a game changing producer of flavoursome craft drinks”.

It is advertising for a product development specialist to work its headquarters in Aberdeenshire, for the purposes of “researching, proposing, developing, and launching our new beverages and soft drinks range”.
