This year, UK bartenders will be at the heart of National Piña Colada Day with the launch of Malibu’s ‘Pimped Colada’ cocktail competition which goes live on the 10th May. Bartenders can enter the competition by sharing an image or video of their classic Malibu Piña Colada, with one creative twist - an imaginative garnish - by posting it on social media with the tag @MalibuUK on Facebook, Twitter or @MalibuRumUK on Instagram with the hashtag #PimpedColada.
Joanna Alexander, marketing Manager, Pernod Ricard UK said: “Based on the insight that the Piña Colada is the UK’s number one cocktail , Malibu is celebrating by giving away free Piña Coladas to the nation. We’ve doubled our budget year on year to drive trial of the drink. Consumers will be able to enjoy a free Malibu Piña Colada at over 800 bars, including: Be At One, Slug & Lettuce and Las Iguana outlets, as well as a number of independent bars across the UK on the 10th & 11th of July. As National Piña Colada Day conveniently falls on a Friday this year, outlets can capitalise with a Piña Colada party all weekend.”
“We’ve seen some fantastically creative cocktail garnishes recently - from the Banana Dolphin to the Pineapple Parrot- so what better way to drum up excitement than through the creative expertise of our nation’s bartenders?” added Alexander.
Entries will close on Friday 3rd July and the winner will be announced on National Piña Colada Day.
The winner and a friend will join Malibu for a trip to Bestival with access to the VIP Lucky Cat bar.
