An advert for Stevenage’s Flava Bar has been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) after regulators deemed it ‘misleading.’

The ad, which appeared on the site’s Facebook page, stated that children would be welcome before 11pm at an event to celebrate the bar’s second birthday.

However, an under 18 was initially refused entry. Once allowed in, the claimant was only able to access a small area in the venue with poor views of the stage. They were then asked to leave the venue before 11pm, contrary to the advert’s claim.

The ASA said it was concerned that Flava Bar did not respond it its enquiries and that it should have been made clear that attendants under 18 would have restricted access within the venue.

The regulator added: “The ad must not appear again in its current form again. We told Flava Bar Ltd to ensure that future ads do not imply children will be allowed entry to the events until a certain time if this isn’t the case. We also told the bar to ensure all the material information, like restricted access or partial views of the stage are included in their adverts.”

Flava Bar is a late night venue that holds a range of music events.
