Kaleslaw from Brakes

Brakes has launched a new “superfood” range aimed at operators wanting to expand their summer menus with more healthy options.

The range includes wheatberry, apple and cranberry salad, wholemeal cous cous, lentil and pesto salad and ‘kaleslaw’.

Frankie Negus, category manager at Brakes, said: “We have seen an increase in consumer demand for superfoods as vegetables such as kale continue to trend – we expect demand to continue growing as summer approaches, with more consumers looking for lighter, healthier options such as salads.

“The addition of superfoods onto menus can attract health-conscious customers looking for nutrient-packed options – they also have a much wider appeal and can be used to add a point of difference to other popular dishes.

“For example, swapping coleslaw for kaleslaw on BBQ style options, such as pulled pork burger, can make dishes more premium and help caterers stand out from the competition.”

New Josper grill

The Robata, which slowly grills skewered food over hot charcoal, measures 1240mm x 410mm x 660mm and is aimed at busy operators who need to economise on space and operators who want to display the grill front-of-house.

Michael Eyre, product director at Jestic, said: “Josper has been the market leader in the development of solid fuel grills for almost 50 years – the new Robata Grill takes much of the brand’s experience in the industry and places it into one innovative appliance.

“Able to produce beautifully rich, aromatic dishes and finished in a sleek, eye-catching design, customers will be intrigues by the cooking process and captivated by the outstanding flavour of their dishes.”

Cod fillets

Country Range has introduced a new range of individually quick frozen cod fillets.

The fillets, which can be steam-cooked, grilled, fried, or oven cooked, are aimed at operators who want to give customers more for their money, as the fillets are designed to have less ice or water coating than the 20% glaze found on some similar products.

Martin Ward, trading director at Country Range, said: “We work closely with our catering customers to identify their exact needs and these low glaze cod fillets help them fulfil customers’ increasing desire to get more for their money, without the caterer losing out.”
