Wimbledon 2015 is coming, which for many means cracking out the cream teas and getting a bit sunburnt in front of a big screen in the local park.

The tournament, which takes place from 29 June to 12 July, represents an opportunity to cash in on some serious custom from fans of the sport.

Messy business

Gallery Mess, at the Saatchi Gallery, is offering an old-school English afternoon tea to customers from 23 June to 6 July.

The tea costs £29.50 per head or £49.50 with the inclusion of a Hendrick’s Tea Party Cocktail, a blend of gin, infused wild berry tea and orange juice, or a jug of Pimm’s.

It includes buttermilk scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream, strawberry and Pimm’s jelly and strawberry cream éclairs, “finger” sandwiches and macaroons.

Cocktails galore

Drake & Morgan is serving a tennis-inspired cocktail, the Strawberry Fields, at eight of its sites.

The cocktail features Henessy cognac shaken with muddled strawberries, gomme syrup and Peychaud’s Bitters.

Dylan Murran, operations director at Drake & Morgan, said: “In London, the announcement of a new concept, pop-up or product has become a weekly – if not daily- occurrence.

“Keeping that in mind, a great way to encourage people to go out of their way to try something new or out-of-the-way is to create an incentive, whether it be the offer of a freebie or discount, the chance for access before the rest of the general public or knowledge of a secret menu item that only a few people know about.”

He added: “This helps not only to build the buzz that is so vital in the beginning but also works well to recapture people’s attention when the initial awareness may have faded.”

Dressed for the occasion

At ETM Group site the Ealing Park Tavern, South Ealing, members of the public who show up in tennis whites for the final weekend of the tournament will be given a free glass of Aperol Spritz.

Additionally, the pub will serve the traditional strawberries and cream throughout the festivities.

The site will also feature ping-pong tables and hammocks for guests.

Wimble’s on

All Bar One Wimbledon is set to undergo a temporary rebrand as All Bar Wimble One for the duration of the tournament.

A tennis court façade featuring grass, a giant racket and a large tennis ball will cover the site’s exterior, with games set to be broadcasted on screens inside the venue.

The site will also serve a tennis-themed cocktail, the Match Point Pimm’s with Prosecco, strawberry and mint.

Marquee moon

At Young’s site the Rose & Crown, Wimbledon, a large marquee and outdoor bar is set up throughout the championship, doubling its capacity.

Ed Ursell, deputy manager at the Rose & Crown, said: “We usually get a massive amount of business from Wimbledon, it’s already building up.

Young’s’ new Burger Shack concept, which the pub company began rolling out in May, is set to make an appearance at the Rose & Crown’s marquee, with customers able to purchase a range of burgers.

Some of the options available at Young’s Burger Shack include a beef “classic” burger, Dingley Dell Farm pulled pork burger and brunch burger with fried egg and bacon.

Wimception

Inception Group site Mr Fogg's, Picadilly, is hosting a Wimbledon Soiree.

The venue's Hendrick's Botanical Garden is set to be turned into a grass tennis court where guests can can play in a friendly lawn tournament with the purchase of a glass of Champagne Lanson White Lable.

Strawberries and cream, scones and lemonade will be served at the event as well as tennis themed cocktails.
