Pub Awards: Best Entertainment Pub - The Lord Clifden, Birmingham

Following a refurb a few years back the Lord Clifden, in the Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham, has gone on to smash its targeted expectations and continues to bound ahead of competitors.

First rate customer service is certainly a stand out feature of this business and that helps to drive word of mouth promotions with regular customers building all the time.

Innovation is key for this venue, and the launch of the Lord Clifden radio app, which allows the pub to stream music events and DJ sets that have been held at the pub to audiences around the world, along with the innovative use of smartphone technology to conduct popular pub quizzes are just two examples of how the pub is pushing technology into the social environment of the pub.

The quizzes themselves, a speed based contest which makes it difficult to cheat, are immensely popular with the night of our judges visit seeing 19 teams competing for prizes.

Entertainment runs across the board in this venue, from its annual Jazz festival, through to hosting top DJ sets throughout the year, along with a good focus on sport, table tennis and table football - all topped off with an excellent food and drink offer. And with future plans for expansion to improve the pub’s outdoor space, the future remains bright for this award winning venue.

Judge Phil Mellows said: “Big-name DJs are the main attraction at the Clifden, but that’s just one reason for its tremendous success over the last few years. Good beer, good food and good customer service are as much a part of the offer, plus the Clifden has its own radio station and is pioneering a quiz played on smartphones, all in all, it adds up to terrific fun.”
