Mobile ordering app Orderella has teamed up with quiz event specialists MyBigIQ to announce applications are open for pubs to take part in the UK’s first National Pub Quiz Day on 1 December.

The national event will raise money for the charity Team Margot Foundation.

On the night, the same quiz will be played simultaneously and in real time in each venue. The general knowledge quiz will be played over 9 rounds with scores added and leader boards shared nationwide. A requirement to buzz in the answer quickly means that checking for answers on smartphones will be avoided.

100 venues will be picked from applications to take part, with pubs receiving the installation of Orderella and MyBigIQ for the event free of charge. Venues need email uryyb@angvbanychodhvmqnl.pbz to sign up.

Competing teams will need to register beforehand for the quiz. Teams can choose their team name to appear on screens nationwide beforehand through this link. Once venues are confirmed teams will register with a £5 registration fee for each team going straight to Team Margot.

Dennis Collet, CEO of Orderella, said “Everyone loves a pub quiz, from regulars at their local to students competing at the student union bar. What this night aims to do is to create that local competition but on a national scale as well. We want to see that north-south, east-west, city versus city rivalries, as pubs compete to prove who has the smartest regulars in the country."

Michael Lawrence, co-founder of MyBigIQ, said “We are delighted to be supplying MyBigIQ, the nationwide interactive quiz, for what will be a fantastic evening of entertainment raising much needed cash for a great cause and helping bring people back to the pub. With the brightest quiz minds creating our quizzes and a system tested by the BBC amongst others we’re very much looking forward to a great event.”

Yaser Martini, Margot’s father and trustee of Team Margot Foundation, said: “We feel very lucky and are excited to have been chosen as the beneficiary charity of the first National Pub Quiz and hope that some of the related questions will help raise awareness of the global need for more people to join the worldwide stem cell registers. Thank you to Orderella for making this happen.”

The Orderella App is available to download via the App Store or Google Play.
