With the search now on for the industry’s best pub companies in the 25th Publican Awards, the PMA looks at why you don’t want to miss out on being part of it.

If you are proud of what your pub company has achieved in the past year then enter the Publican Awards 2016 now and get your team and business the recognition they deserve.

There are 17 exciting categories now open for entries from pub companies both large and small.

Being selected as a winner or finalist in these prestigious awards offers the opportunity to raise your company’s profile, which can open the door to new customers and potential investors and partners.

Making the shortlist in these awards also generates excellent press coverage, which puts your company on the national stage and helps recruit new staff.

As Joycelyn Neve, managing director of the Seafood Pub Company, which won Best Food Offer 2015 (two to 50 sites) says: “To win this award really was the highlight of the year for us. It put us on a national platform, giving us a surge in PR and, therefore, trade and also recruitment.”

Adam Luck, estate director at St Austell Brewery, who took the title of Best Tenanted & Leased Pub Company 2015 (up to 200 sites), adds: “It had been our ambition to win this category for a number of years and it gave the whole company a massive boost when results were announced.

“It has undoubtedly enhanced our reputation and I believe we have seen a step change in the quality of applications we have received for vacancies in our tenanted estate.”

Time well-invested

Even if your entry isn’t selected as a finalist, going through the entry process will help provide focus on what you have achieved in the past year and also any areas for improvement and business issues.

As Steve Ball, co-director of the Columbo Group, winner of Best Late Night Operator 2015, says: “Even if we hadn’t won, the process of putting into words the achievements of the business for the application would have been a rewarding enough experience.

“I’ve no doubt that the accolade has and will continue to help us in our future ventures.”

Team recognition

Winning an award is also a fantastic morale booster for your team.

Trudie Meredith, marketing director at Joule’s Brewery, winner of Best Brewing Pub Company 2015, says: “A big part of what we do is the creation of a common purpose, a community of interest, so winning this prestigious award vindicated the pride and cumulative effort that our tenants and managers put into the running of their businesses and their allegiance to the brewery and brand.”

Invaluable networking

Being part of the Publican Awards also offers entrants fantastic networking opportunities.

The Publican Awards Judging Day in London in February offers the chance to meet and share insights with other top operators and industry experts who can help add value to your business in the future.

The winners will be announced at the biggest night in the pub industry calendar, the Publican Awards ceremony on Tuesday, 15 March, at exciting new venue Battersea Evolution in London.

The closing date for entries to the awards is Friday, 6 November 2015.
