Julian Momen has been appointed the new chief executive officer at Carlsberg UK, replacing interim CEO Michiel J Herkemij.

Momen has been chief financial officer for the company since September 2012 and has more than 30 years' experience in the food and drinks industry.

The company said Momen would continue to implement changes introduced by Herkemij, who will become senior vice president for the Western Europe and join Carlsberg's executive committee.

Momen said: "Michiel has started that new direction of greater value and brand focus, and I am delighted to be able to continue the exciting, challenging journey on which we embark."

Carlsberg recently said that its UK business remains "challenged", facing declining volumes during 2015.

Chief executive Cees 't Hart said he was confident the company's "well-balanced portfolio of brands and committed employees" would help lead to a brighter 2016.
