JD Wetherspoon has scrapped traditional Sunday roasts to focus on its core menu in a move which has left its customers devastated.

The final Wetherspoons roast dinners, which were as cheap as £6.75 including a drink and served from noon-11pm, will be served on Mother’s Day next week.

A spokesman for JDW said the pubco understands some customers will be disappointed, but it "has to make decisions which are right for the company".

Angry customers took to Twitter to vent their frustrations at the decision.

One lover of the Spoons roast was left so upset he started a petition calling for founder Tim Martin to reverse the decision.

He said: “Tim Martin's spokes-people seem to suggest that this is a commercial decision. But how? It's popular, it's proper, it's perfect the way it is. Yes, you could put the prices up a tiny bit if that's really necessary BUT KEEP OUR SUNDAY ROASTS! We deserve that dry chicken, tinned beef, ruined Mashed Potato and barely defrosted Roastie.”

The pubco has already removed the offer from its website.
