The grand opening of a Silverdale pub was marked with an Emmerdale star cutting the ribbon and pouring the first pint.

Emma Atkins who plays Charity Dingle in the Yorkshire soap, said she was delighted to see The Royal re-open where she grew up as it holds so many happy memories for her.

Owner Michael Holgate also runs the nearby Silverdale Holiday Park said: “Although we bought The Royal with our own customers in mind, we're delighted that it will also provide something of a social hub for the local community.”

The Park has been in the Holgate family for 60 years and though it does have a café, restaurant and bar, Holgate thought customers would enjoy somewhere different too.

Refurbishment

After receiving a £300,000 make over, The Royal now has re-fitted kitchens with brand new technology, which enables food to be served at the bar and in the dining room

According to Holgate, a large proportion of the third of a million pounds was spent on equipping, redesigning and furnishing the pub to give it that cosy, comfortable feel.

Holgate explained: "We are well aware, of course, that in recent years many local pubs have been calling time and closing down – so in some ways we are bucking a national trend.

"However, all the evidence shows that pubs which offer a distinct identity and first-class hospitality, as well as high quality food and drink, will survive and prosper," he added.

Locally-sourced

He also emphasised that food at The Royal is to include locally sourced ingredients along with craft ales from close-by village Lakeland.

Silverdale Park won Cumbria Tourism’s overall holiday park of the year in 2014 and the family own five other parks in the area.

Overall, the group have 500 caravan holiday homes, touring pitches and purpose-built timber camping pods.
