London-based pub group Young's has opened the doors to its first stand-alone Burger Shack venue.

The 150-cover capacity eatery sits on the site of the former Fire Stables in Wimbledon, south-west London, and is the company's first foray into bricks and mortar with the concept, which already operates in pop-up form at six Young's pubs.

Patrick Dardis, chief executive of Young's, said: "While we are, and always will be, a food-led pub business, the Burger Shack concept allows us to create an engaging dining experience in those Young's pubs with a younger, more urban demographic.

Varied range

"We have a number of pubs in Wimbledon and by creating something new, we can offer locals a more varied range of dining and drinking options."

Dishes on offer at the Burger Shack include burgers such as the British beef Classic, the Streaky, the Veggie and the Chilli Pulled Pork as well as a range of USA-inspired main courses such as lobster and crayfish rolls, mac and cheese, smoked back baby ribs and buttermilk fried chicken Caesar salads.

Business innovation

Installing a Burger Shack at the Windmill, Clapham, south London, won Young's the award for Business Innovation of the Year at 2016's Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs. Young's also won Best Food Offer (51+ sites) at the 25th Anniversary Publican Awards.

The company plans to open another 14 Burger Shacks at existing Young's pubs by the end of 2018, it said.

Fellow London pub group Redcomb Leisure announced this week, it would open Lock House at Paddington Basin, west London, its first venture in the UK casual-dining sector.
