Former IT worker and antiques dealer Ian Hayes has created an oasis in a most unusual location; off the beaten track outside Huddersfield town centre and next to a leisure centre.

The Grove offers an incredible choice of cask, keg and bottled beer in eclectic surroundings as its understated exterior gives you no clue as to what awaits inside.

Once you step inside, everything about the pub shouts ‘beer’, from the impressive number of handpulls and unusual fonts on the oak-panelled bar to the extensive beer list prominently displayed on blackboards and wood encased bottled beer menus chained to the furniture.

Enterprise

Taxidermy displays mounted on the walls sit alongside quirky paintings of nudes. This former Enterprise tenancy has been transformed into a venue repeatedly voted best beer bar in England by users of the Ratebeer.com website, and a regular in the Good Beer Guide.

The range features an impressive 19 cask and 17 keg lines, plus a staggering c250 bottled and canned beers.

Hayes keeps a close eye on trends and styles, dealing directly with brewers and encouraging customers to try something new. A gluten-free range gives a point of difference. Staff have a good knowledge of beer. A loyalty scheme, good website and strong social media encourages repeat visits.
