Great British Pub Awards
Pub Awards: Best Inn finalist - The Bull & Swan, Stamford, Lincolnshire
Entering through a narrow, stone arched passageway into the car park with the building above you, this is an inn full of the 16th century charm makes this a truly appealing site for both business and leisure travellers alike.
Rooms
Rooms are immaculately presented with the kind of attention to detail and provenance you would expect from such a historic venue, but with all of the modern conveniences that you would also expect from an inn in the twenty-first century. Beds are large and comfortable and with the wind and rain sweeping in outside, the quiet and comfort of the accommodation is obvious.
The en-suite facilities include high-quality shower units and roll-top baths, ensuring that the accommodation offer is premium across the board. You feel like you have stepped back in time, but without the creaking wood and airy, draughty rooms that could have come with such an experience.
Food
Food is traditional pub grub, served to a high, gastropub standard. Their scotch eggs are part of local folklore, and the head chef – himself once named national Game Chef of the Year – produces a meaty, warm pie with a rich gravy which perfectly complements the surrounding room with its large, open fireplace, thick wooden tables and leather-furnished chairs.
Beers are as local as the food with several pumps dedicated to the craft and real ale providers from the area. Additionally, a private dining space has been created for business meetings and local leisure groups.
Outside, a seating area allows for some exterior dining opportunities within the surrounds of the inn’s grounds, and away from the main road at the front. Plans are in the offing for a herb garden to be created in the space, and the maximise the opportunity for al fresco dining in the area.
