The opening encounters of rugby's most passionate northern hemisphere tournament take place this weekend. But that's just half of an epic weekend of sport taking place in the pub.

Football: Chelsea v Arsenal (Saturday, 12.30pm) - Sky Sports 1

A stunning non-stop Saturday afternoon of sport kicks off with a Premier League derby between two of the current top four. Chelsea are a long way clear of the chasing pack at the top of the table and this is a must win-game for Arsenal if they are to stay in the title race.

Rugby Union: Scotland v Ireland (Saturday, 2.25pm) - BBC 1

The RBS 6 Nations begins with what is likely to be a close encounter between two sides on fantastic form going into the tournament. The early Premier League football match is likely to finish mere minutes before this game so have a plan in place for switching coverage and make customers well aware of it.

Rugby Union: England v France (Saturday, 4.50pm) - ITV

The second rugby match sees defending champions England host France. There is a short break between the previous match and this one so it is worth having entertainment or free bar food in place to keep customers entertained and interested so that they stay at your site for the entirety of the afternoon.

Rugby Union: Italy v Wales (Sunday, 2pm) - ITV

The weekend's rugby concludes with Wales hoping to get their campaign off to a winning start in Rome. Wales may not have been on the best form going into the tournament, but always seem to turn the style on at 6 Nations time so should attract a lot of interest over the coming month.

NFL: Super Bowl LI (Sunday, 11pm) - Sky Sports 1 & BBC 1

The time has come for the NFL's showpiece event – an event worth an average of £1,130 to pubs every year. This year all eyes will be on Houston, Texas, where the New England Patriots will take on the Atlanta Falcons. The Patriots will be favourites for a fifth Super Bowl triumph, but never underestimate the possibility of the underdog being fired up for the big occasion.
