In a celebration of Joy Spence’s 20 years as the world’s first female master blender, the Appleton Estate is releasing a ‘unique’ premium-aged rum.

Leading Jamaican premium-aged rum Appleton Estate has released its Joy Anniversary Blend, which will be rolled out across markets this month.

The rare 25-year-old limited edition rum –which celebrates the world’s first female master blender Joy Spence’s 20th anniversary in the role – opens with a delicate orange peel top note.

The taste is then entwined with ginger and spice and finishes with warm vanilla, butterscotch, coffee and layers of almond and toasted oak.

Spence’s vision was to create a rum she would like to sup while watching the colours of her garden change in the warm glow of the Jamaican sunset.

She said: “It includes two rum marques of particular sentimental significance to me.

“The first of these marques was laid down to age in 1981, which is the year I joined the Appleton Estate team and the second is my favour-ite marque of pot still rum.

“The final blend is a wonderful rum that I hope will become a cornerstone of my legacy.”

This 25-year-old minimum-aged rum, that includes spirits that have been aged up to 35 years, is a reflection of a woman who embodies passion, love and above all else, joy.

Dominic Worrall the Bull, Ditchling, East Sussex:

“What a fantastic way to celebrate Joy’s 20 years of creating such amazing rum. In a market dominated by major brands and big labels it’s a delight to see Appleton’s attention to detail in the way this rum had been blended and produced.

“A premium drink for the more discerning drinker, we’re excited to see this come to the UK market. We take careful consideration in choosing our spirit offer, with locality, quality and story playing a major role in our decision making.

"I can see this working well on the bar as it offers a sense of tradition, provenance and, of course, beautiful blending and aging.”
