Greene King has opened 14 new Farmhouse Inns sites over the last 12 months and has recruited 1,000 staff to fuel the expansion.

About 50 managerial roles have already been filled as well as hundreds of front and back-of-house jobs.

Farmhouse Inns, a managed concept, was identified by the Bury St Edmunds-based pubco as a specific growth area for 2017.

This was established based on consumer relevance, financial performance and long-term growth opportunities, the company said.

Fighting the misconception

Group HR director for Greene King, John Smith, said that he hoped the recruitment for the Farmhouse Inns positions would help defeat the “misconception” that the hospitality industry doesn’t offer long-term career prospects.

“Our employees are our lifeblood and we are incredibly proud to offer roles that hold opportunities to progress all the way to the top,” he added.

Smith added that training the staff had proved to be the main challenge in the expansion plans, saying that this was aided by having a dedicated training team for Farmhouse Inns.

“This support means that when we open multiple sites in a short space of time, our training team is able to continue the great work that it does without any extra pressure,” he said.
