London pub to focus on Asian food after £250,000 refurb
The Goat in Mitcham will close its doors on 18 June for five weeks to undergo a £250,000 refurbishment before reopening as the Crown & Pepper, which will have an increased focus on food.
The new menu will include a mix of Indian and Chinese dishes, alongside traditional pub classics like fish and chips, steaks and burgers.
Real coffee will be available throughout the day for the first time, as well as improved Wi-Fi.
The investment will give the pub's interior and exterior a new look with burgundy and cream colours for the interior walls and a repainted black and cream exterior.
Transformation
Licensees Wing Yip and Mansi Patel, who already have the Crown & Pepper in Bromley, south-east London, with Star Pubs & Bars, are aiming to transform the site into a family pub and restaurant
Patel said the pub was different to any others in the area thanks to its food offer and hailed the setting as “great”.
She said: “[The pub is] next to the common and has lots of parking so is ideal for family, work and friends get togethers, whether to watch sport or have a fun meal out.
“We could see the potential the moment we saw the Goat and can’t wait to turn it around and broaden its appeal as we did with the Crown & Pepper in Bromley.”
Though the focus will be on food, the pub will also cater for drinkers and sports fans with eight 50in flat-screeen TV screens showing live Sky and BT Sport.
Drinks offer
Cocktails are also being introduced alongside a range of single malt whiskies and premium spirits, and great cask, draught and bottled ciders and beers.
Star Pubs & Bars operations director Tim Galligan praised the work the licensees had completed at their Bromley pub.
He said: “The Crown & Pepper in Bromley consistently gets high rankings online, which is a testament to the great job Yip and Patel have done in turning around a previously troubled pub.”
The pubco previously praised staff at the Goat for their actions after a car ploughed into the pub last month (Friday 28 April).
