John Smith’s has been unveiled as the headline sponsor for the Great British Pub Awards for the next three years.

The event, which takes place on 7 September 2017 at the Park Lane Hilton, London, will see pubs honoured in 17 categories and an overall John Smith’s Great British Pub of the Year awarded.

John Smith’s marketing manager Richard Barnes said: “John Smith’s has been a staple of the great British pub for decades, so we are over the moon to put our name to the awards, which celebrate everything that is great about pubs.

"We are so lucky in this country to have an abundance of pubs, nowhere else in the world has pubs like us Brits."

Where memories are made

He continued: "Pubs are central to all our lives – they’re the place where memories are made, from first dates to birthday nights out to great evenings with your mates.

"They are so central to every village, town and city in the UK and the people that run them are pillars of their communities.

"Pubs are the places where people come together whether it’s for a pub quiz, weekly karaoke, live local bands, stand-up comedy, or just to simply enjoy a refreshing pint.

“The raft of extraordinary pubs in this country is a testament to the hard work of licensees up and down the country – so good luck to all of the finalists – in our eyes you’re all winners. Cheers!”

'Such an iconic brand'

Editor of The Morning Advertiser Ed Bedington said: “It is fantastic to have such an iconic brand backing our glittering event.

“The 17 awards showcase the best of the pub trade and it is one of the most rigorous judging regimes. Good luck to all the finalists.”
