There might not be any Premier League football this weekend, but Gareth Southgate’s England team is in World Cup qualifying action, plus the Aviva Premiership London double header, a full day of T20 cricket action and the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix also take place.

Football: Live World Cup Qualifying, Malta v England (Friday 1 September – 7.15pm-10pm) – ITV

The Three Lions are looking to get back to winning ways, after Harry Kane scored a last-minute equaliser to clinch a 2-2 draw against Scotland in their previous match.

Rugby Union: Double bill of live Aviva Premiership Rugby, Saracens v Northampton Saints and London Irish v Harlequins (Saturday 2 September – 1.30pm-6.45pm) ​ BT Sport 1

The English rugby union season opening weekend continues with its traditional double header from Twickenham Stadium. European Champions Cup holders Saracens kick off at 2pm against Northampton Saints while promoted team London Irish face Harlequins, with a scheduled start time of 4.45pm.

Cricket: Live T20 Blast finals day, Birmingham Bears v Glamorgan (10.30am-2.15pm); Hampshire v Nottingham Outlaws (2.15pm-5.30pm); followed by the final (6pm-10pm) – Sky Sports Cricket

NatWest T20 Blast finals day sees semi-finals between Birmingham Bears v Glamorgan and Hampshire v Nottingham Outlaws, with the winners meeting in the evening final. Last year, Northamptonshire Steelbacks saw off Durham Jets to take the title.

Formula 1:Live Italian Grand Prix (Sunday 3 September – 12.30pm-3.30pm) – Sky Sports Main Event

The world-famous Italian Grand Prix, hosted at Monza, takes place after qualifying heats on Thursday and Friday. This event has been held each year since the inaugural season of the Formula 1 World Championship in 1950.
