Liberation Group has acquired four pubs for £4.3m in the West Country to strengthen its Butcombe pub estate, which now totals 34 sites.

The additional purchases, which took place in the past four weeks, mean the group has bought 10 new sites this year – a 42% increase in its estate.

South-west-based Liberation Group is buying up sites in a bid to become the leading brewery and pub estate in the region, it said in a press release today (15 September).

The four pubs in the acquisition include the Royal Oak in Prestbury, Gloucestershire; and the Quarrymans Arms in Box; the Horse & Groom Inn in Malmesbury; and the Tavern in Melksham, all in Wiltshire.

Liberation Group chief executive Mark Crowther said: “These quality freehold pubs will fit perfectly into our growing estate.

“The West Country is the heartland for Butcombe, we’re continuing to expand our presence here.

“These four fantastic additions bring us another step closer to achieving the wider Liberation Group’s long-term goal of doubling the size of its estate to 200 pubs across southern England and the Channel Islands.”

Each of the pubs have different styles of customers and service:

The Royal Oak:
A 16th century freehouse in the village of Prestbury near Cheltenham. The pub features in the Michelin Guide and National Geographic’s Top 10 English Pubs. The Royal Oak benefits from being the closest pub to Cheltenham Racecourse and offers visitors log fires, a snug bar and dining room with a delicious menu.

The Quarrymans Arms:
A 300-year-old former miners' pub in the picturesque village Box on the outskirts of Bath. The pub offers a beer garden with beautiful views over the valley towards Colerne. Inside, the pub has roaring fires and walls adorned with stone-mining memorabilia dating back to when Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s navvies were building the Great Western Railway.

The Horse & Groom Inn:
A 16th century pub known for its excellent food, real ales and stylish accommodation set in beautiful surroundings. The inn’s restaurant provides a relaxed space to try delicious menus, while the pub garden offers the perfect place for alfresco dining in the summer. The Horse & Groom has five spacious and stylish bedrooms, each with their own large and airy bathroom, complete with roll-top bath.

The Tavern:
Known for its cider, live music performance and mouth-watering barbecue food. The pub also offers a large beer garden for warmer weekends.
