With more than 19bn ideas on the virtual scrapbook website, food and drink is one of the company’s largest categories and something it claims is still growing.
Since last year, the company has seen a 46% rise in food and drink 'pins' according to its global analysis.
The trends pubs should look out for in 2018 are:
Diet-friendly frying – using hot air instead of oil to crank out crispy favourites is just one trend pubs can tap into. Pins saved for 'air fryer' were up 1,809%.
Nutrition packed
Souping, the warmer version of juicing is a soul-nourishing and nutrient-packed delicious way to reset a dish, Pinterest said. And it also revealed that saved pins for 'souping' were up 306%.
Protein powder, or superfoods like maca, mixed into a morning brew like coffee can help shake a case of the Monday blues. The number of times Pinterest users had saved 'healthy coffee' had risen 218%.
Sweet heat from Morocco with north African spices including cumin, coriander and cardamom are waking up taste buds and pushing everyday dishes beyond the basics. 'Moroccan' saves were up 2,579%.
Meat wasn’t the only protein powerhouse as lentils, hemp and quinoa pack a nutritional punch and taste just as good. Pins saved for 'plant proteins' had gone up by 417%.
World-class snack artists are swapping greasy chips for dressed up edamame and snap peas and the number of Pinterest users saving 'snap peas' rose by 273%.
Vegan friendly
Hot sauce is another pattern operators can get inspired by as Korean condiments, especially Gochujang, are on fire. Saves for 'Korean condiments' were up 222%.
In the modern ‘dairy is scary’ world, ghee and clarified butter are lactose-free wonder foods with a rich nutty flavour. 'Vegan desserts' pins saved were up 329%.
On the subject of dairy, desserts can be great without animal products, Pinterest said but just trade coconut oil for butter and flaxseed for eggs. The number of pins saved for 'vegan desserts' rose by 329%.
When it comes to drinks, it has never been easier for consumers to not drink booze thanks to non-alcoholic mixes with artisanal ingredients. Searches for 'virgin cocktails' increased by 160%.
