North Bar launches 20th anniversary beer
Since reaching its 20th anniversary in July last year, staff from across North Bar’s seven sites have been involved in fundraising activities and have raised more than £9,000 for St Gemma’s Hospice.
Now the business is almost halfway towards its £20,000 target, it is increasing efforts to raise money by rebadging its best-selling 3.8% ABV cask beer Prototype, created by North Bar’s brewing arm, North Brewing Co.
This will become the company’s limited-edition #NB20 session pale, with 20p of every pint sold going into the fundraising pot. The beer will be available across all seven bars in Leeds, Otley and Harrogate, where a variety of fundraising events will also be held in the next six months.
North Bar has supported St Gemma’s Hospice for many years. Located just five minutes up the road from its headquarters, St Gemma’s provides expert care, support, advice and information for terminally ill patients and their families, carers and loved ones.
Donation to charity
The hospice costs £25,000 to run per day so North Bar is inviting everyone to its sites to enjoy a pint, knowing that 20p goes directly to the charity.
North Bar co-owner and co-director John Gyngell lauded the work the hospice does for its patients and their families.
He explained: “We are absolutely delighted to have raised so much for St Gemma’s Hospice so far and all of our staff are determined to reach our fundraising goal.
“St Gemma’s is a truly incredible facility, which does so much for patients and families within our community and we are extremely proud to continue our support.”
St Gemma’s community and event senior fundraiser Fay Richardson thanked North Bar and all of its customers who have supported the hospice through raising money.
Locally based business
She said: “Thank you to North Bar for supporting us so much in its 20th anniversary year. It is fantastic that a locally based business has really taken on board fundraising for us and wanting to raise £20,000 in its anniversary year.
“From beer tasting evenings, to skydives, to selling North Bar merchandise and having charity taps in the bars, it is fantastic to know that all the staff at all the seven bars and head office are 100% behind the campaign.
“Thank you also to all the customers of all the bars that are donating and supporting the fantastic campaign and for your continued support.
“£20,000 is enough to pay for 44 days of care for a patient at the hospice and help them have the best possible end-of-life care and make every day count, which could mean anything from cooking their favourite meal, to helping them with pain relief and symptom control so they have a good night’s sleep to hosting a family get-together.
“Without the continued support from the people of Leeds, none of this would be possible, so a huge thank you to North Bar for wanting to support and be involved with the hospice, we really are so grateful.”
