UK pubs joined in with festivities across The Pond for yesterday’s Fourth of July celebration of US independence, offering specially themed food, drink, and music.

Some pubs made American cuisine their main attraction or produced themed cocktails for the night.

The Duke’s Head in Putney, south-west London, held a themed dinner with tickets at £30 per head. All-American mac and cheese was served, followed by barbecue smoked ribs, buttered corn on the cob, deep-fried pickled gherkins, and fries, and finished with a Mississippi baked mud pie cheesecake.

Free hot dogs

The Creepy Wee Pub, Fife, Scotland, served free hot dogs to customers as they were tested on US general knowledge in a quiz.

Organisers there said the event was a success: “It went well. It was quite well attended – especially for a Wednesday. I just wish we could have had fireworks.”

Cahoots in Soho, central London, had three themed cocktails for the night, which all used Maker’s Mark Bourbon whisky.

The cocktails comprised: ‘Fire up for the 4th’s Fireworks’, using Fentimans ginger beer and Chambord black raspberry liqueur; ‘Make your Mark Megabucks’, had Rinomato aperitif and Shepherd Neame India Pale Ale mixed; and ‘Get Tiddly with Lady Liberty’ used Lazzaroni Amaretto liqueur and Laphroaig and Black Jasmine foam.

The Duke’s Head included American craft beers in their dinner deal, with Brooklyn Lager, Anchor Steam Beer, Lagunitas, Goose Island IPA, and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale giving customers a taste of the US.

'Beers, burgers and rockin' music'

Bar chain Belushi's promised “beer, burgers and rockin’ music” with food and drink deals starting in the day and music continuing into the night at all of its London branches.

The international chain also offered two-for-one Texan Ice Tea Cocktails and served nachos and chicken wings.

The Roadhouse bar in Covent Garden, central london, enticed punters with beer pong matches and half-price burgers.

Shoreditch Pub Crawl, which takes customers on trip to several bars/clubs, hosted a special event for the day. Punters visited five London pubs on the crawl where they were treated to free shots and given stars and stripes accessories.
