Independent pub company Punch has launched a new training facility, The Academy, at its support centre in Burton-upon-Trent, east Staffordshire.

Based at The Academy, Punch offers a range of courses for its publicans as well as online training through its Punch Progress console and training app with additional courses available and continually being developed with brand partners such as Cask Marque, Sky, Diageo and Vianet.

The training and development facility features a 300-seat conference room, food development kitchen, a kitchen, a fully fitted bar and a training cellar, ensuring that every aspect of operating a pub can be nurtured on site.

Academy attendees will benefit from hands-on experience in what is essentially a fully functioning pub with each trainee participating in sessions to help them create the perfect serve for products including spirits, coffees and cask conditioned ales, as well as learning the ins and outs of cellar management.

Speaking about the new venue, Punch chief executive Clive Chesser said: “To ensure our new and current publicans get the best training support available, we have developed this industry leading facility.

“Whether they are starting out in their first pub business or building on their expertise they can do that using the most innovative training environment around, helping them create great pubs, which we all love.”

Chesser added: “Providing the most innovative training facility for our publicans will unlock more possibilities for them and their pubs.

“We are all extremely excited about seeing what this supercharged facility can do for all the people who put their heart and soul into running pubs with us”.
