Star Pubs & Bars has partnered with Shield Safety health and safety support to offer a bespoke food, fire and health & safety system for leased and tenanted licensees.

The announcement follows a successful rollout of Shield Safety support for its managed operator Just Add Talent sites.

The joint package from Star Pubs & Bars and Shield Safety aims to simplify health and safety compliance for licensees by offering audits, a helpline with access to environmental health officers, compliance software – allowing staff to easily record the necessary checks on any mobile device – and cloud-based storage of compliance records.

The system enables licensees to remotely monitor their pub’s compliance in real time, flagging potential issues via a traffic light system.

Under the partnership, Star Pubs & Bars licensees will have access to one of the system’s three levels of cover: food safety; health and safety; or food safety and health & safety combined – at a preferential rate.

Star Pubs & Bars property director Chris Moore said: “Having robust food, fire and health & safety procedures that both facilitate due diligence and prove it, has never been more important.

“Fines for non-compliance increased earlier this year and can now be 5% of turnover. And poor food hygiene ratings – which are often due to weak management and inadequate record keeping rather than hygiene practices – can have a serious impact on trade and take up to two years to correct.

“This new package simplifies an increasingly complex area for licensees and gives them peace of mind.”
