Stonegate Pub Company will introduce portable phone chargers across 150 of its venues this month, in a partnership with power bank rental network ChargedUp.

Customers will be able to rent a portable charger at the pub and return it to any one of 450 stations located in venues including restaurants, cafés and transport hubs.

The portable chargers are entirely powered by renewable energy and are linked to an app.

In a trial of the partnership, more than 1,000 visitors used chargers at five Be At One venues in central London over six weeks.

Previously, ChargedUp was only operational in London and Brighton but now pubs across the country will offer the power banks.

Keeping connected

Stonegate’s head of commercial, Dan Castle said: “Keeping connected is an essential characteristic of those working or socialising in our businesses.

“Enabling our customers to pick up a charger in-bar, and drop of at a convenient point, ensures they never run out of power while remaining environmentally friendly.”

Prices start at 50p for half an hour of use.

ChargedUp chief executive Hugo Tilmouth said: “We’re incredibly excited by the opportunity to work with the award-winning Stonegate Pub Company.

“This partnership will allow us to accelerate our growth strategy to offer phone charging powered by green energy across the UK.”

The company said it would have chargers available in more than 1,000 sites by the summer.
